The Board of Governors has now adopted The University Community on Campus – UBC’s Housing Action Plan, UBC’s comprehensive plan to improve housing affordability and choice on the Vancouver campus for faculty, staff and students.
Thanks to the foresight of British Columbians over 100 years ago, UBC benefits from a significant land endowment to support its academic mission – to be a globally significant university and a leader in student experience, teaching and research.
The University Community on Campus – UBC’s Housing Action Plan will directly contribute to the realization of Place and Promise: The UBC Plan.
Managed wisely, this land is now allowing us to expand the housing options available to our faculty, staff and students. The University Community on Campus – UBC’s Housing Action Plan will support the long-term development of a thriving, diverse and sustainable community on the Point Grey campus – the kind of community that can help us attract and retain academic leaders who are critical to UBC’s continued teaching and research excellence.
With the introduction of The University Community on Campus – UBC’s Housing Action Plan, UBC is dedicating up to 30% of its future housing stock to restricted housing options exclusively for faculty and staff to help UBC build a vibrant and sustainable residential community. The housing programs introduced in the Plan will remain faculty and staff housing in perpetuity, benefitting current and future generations of UBC employees.
The new housing programs will be rolled out over time and reviewed regularly to ensure they continue to meet the needs of our faculty and staff in the context of changing market conditions and changing demand.
UBC is also committed to ensuring we are able to build enough student housing supply to meet the demand through the Student Housing Financing Endowment, and The University Community on Campus – UBC’s Housing Action Plan additionally commits to further supporting the student experience through new housing and advocacy programs.
